Corient was established in 2022 as the U.S. wealth management arm of Canada's CI Financial, built largely through acquisitions of advisory firms. Since August 2025 it has been owned by Mubadala Capital, the Abu Dhabi-based investment firm that took CI Financial private. Advisors use Corient's internally managed strategies, third-party separately managed accounts, fund and ETF models, and private funds. Fees are negotiated individually up to 1.00%, so similar clients may pay different rates. Corient has more than 30 offices across the U.S.
